5. Giant Ant References

Giant ants are something that featured frequently in early science fiction – as well as their fair share of horror flicks. With Ant-Man’s powers possibly having been inspired by this trend, it’s only natural that a film majorly featuring him also makes reference to them.

And reference them it does, with the closing scene of the film featuring scenes from Them!, a 1954 classic science fiction monster movie wherein giant murderous ants threaten the Earth. As well as this, the film also references it’s 50s inspiration through Bill Foster quoting its iconic line – ‘it’s them!’ – upon seeing the giant ants that are being employed against him, in another parallel to the sci-fi classic.
