8. Terrence Howard (War Machine)

Though it might seem like a distant memory nowadays, Terrence Howard originally played James Rhodes aka War Machine in the first Iron Man movie.

However, due to Marvel Studios reportedly offering him just $1 million to return for Iron Man 2 - after he was paid a ridiculous $8 million for the first movie - Howard walked, and Don Cheadle instead stepped up to the plate.

Would It Have Worked?: Howard's a terrific actor in spite of his sometimes difficult reputation, so he absolutely would've killed Rhodey's sporadic appearances throughout the MCU.

Cheadle's great, though, so no ill feelings either way.
