MCU: 5 Most Likely Roles For Captain America's Return

Captain America could be coming back to the MCU, but when should we expect to see him?

Avengers: Endgame was the end of an era in the MCU for so many reasons. Thanos was finally defeated, Thor passed the Asgardian throne to Valkyrie, and Tony Stark sacrificed himself for the greater good. Steve Rogers' arc also seemingly came to a close, as he was finally able to live the life with Peggy he always wanted.

With Cap returning to the present as an old man, passing his famous shield on to Sam, it was assumed his time in the franchise was done. This was backed up by the Phase Four slate being free of either a fourth Captain America movie, or a fifth Avengers movie.

However, new reports are now claiming that Chris Evans may in fact be making his triumphant return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor himself has thrown doubt on these reports since, however this wouldn't be the first time a role was debunked before later being confirmed. Look no further than Tatiana Maslany's reaction to being cast as She-Hulk to give you hope that maybe Evans is simply trying to mislead fans before an official confirmation from Disney.

Should the reports prove to be true, with 12 movies already announced, and almost a dozen Disney+ series coming over the next few years, there's no shortage of opportunities to bring the Star Spangled Man with a Plan back into the franchise, but which make the most sense?

5. Fantastic Four

There are a lot of places Steve Rogers could turn up next in the MCU, and every option on this list would make sense in regards of both the character, and of the wider universe itself. However, none of them can even come close to the wonderful fan service that would be having Captain America show up in Jon Watts' Fantastic Four movie.

How great would it be to see Chris Evans' Steve Rogers meet Marvel's First Family, in particular the Human Torch, the character he himself brought to life before the inception of the MCU? It's something that the actor himself has said he would love to happen in the future.

Of course this would have to be more than just fan service, but there could be any number of ways for Steve Rogers' path to cross with that of Reed Richards and co. Theories that the Fantastic Four may first appear in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania could be the key to this crossover.

If in fact the team are brought into the MCU from another dimension or timeline, potentially with the Quantum Realm or even Kang the Conqueror being the reason, there is no end to the possibilities of a world in which the Fantastic Four are already established superheroes. It's not unreasonable that they already have a relationship with a prime Captain America, who could even vouch for them to the rest of the Avengers should the need ever arise.
