MCU: Chris Evans Is Done With Captain America After Avengers 4
Is Steve Rogers going to die?
Few movie star contracts have been as heavily discussed and scrutinised as Chris Evans' Marvel deal has over the past few years. It's been like a ticking clock, counting down to his eventual exit from the MCU.
Evans has spoken a number of times in that period about his desire not to outstay his welcome and explore avenues outside of movie acting, although this time last year Evans was saying he might not be done after all, but now it seems like he's made up his mind. In an interview with The New York Times he has reiterated that he'll probably be walking away from the MCU after next year's Avengers 4, saying:
"You want to get off the train before they push you off."
The interview notes that reshoots for Avengers 4, which is still without a title, will be taking place this fall, and that's likely to be that last time Evans puts on the red, white, and blue of Captain America.
It's easy to take that as a sign Cap will die, although the wording is deliberately vague and suggests it's his choice to walk away. There are signs that the character could be killed off in Infinity War (but then, so could many others) and brought back for Avengers 4, before bowing out completely, either with a death or simply a well-earned retirement. It won't necessarily be the end of Captain America though, even if Steve Rogers goes, with both Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) tipped to take over the shield.
