16. Iron Man 3 - Aldrich Killian

Iron Man 3's entire structure, steered by action-cliche professional Shane Black is a big film to dissect.

Firstly, no matter what people say- the reveal about the Mandarin being a fake is one of the best twists in the MCU franchise (and possibly movie history in the last 10 years). The reason being; in the age of guerilla photography, script-leaks, spoiler websites and podcasts, that hidden gem was so closely guarded it shouldn't be taken for granted.

However...what we were left with was a gut-punch of a villain. Ben Kingsley's sinister, slurring cult leader is replaced by Guy Pierce' handsome but misguided criminal tycoon, Aldrich Killian.

Playing a new-age terrorist who was scorned by Tony Stark at the turn of the millennium is too many motives for a villain, and while Killian's campaign ultimately doesn't matter we can't forget his absurd fire-breathing (and healing) powers.

If there is one big positive to say about this villain, it's that at least he isn't another human in an Iron Man suit.
