Having woken up in the modern era and being startled for about five seconds, Captain America hits the gym to work out some of his frustrations at not getting his date with Peggy Carter. In a scene we'd later see as part of The Avengers, he easily defeats a heavy punching bag, before Nick Fury appears to tell him he wants him to help save the world.

The scene then gives way to a montage tease for The Avengers, confirming all of the characters and hinting at Loki's involvement as the villain.

What It Meant

It basically just doubles down on the final scenes: Cap is working with SHIELD, under Nick Fury's command. But Fury still has plans for The Avengers Initiative that feature Cap prominently.

The threat he mentions is obviously Loki stealing the Tesseract and mind-controlling Clint Barton in the opening act of The Avengers.

This tease also meant that Marvel knew they could repurpose scenes from their upcoming projects as post-credits stingers, paving the way for a couple of future ones.
