MCU: Kevin Feige Has A 5-Year Plan For Phase 4
Phase 4 will kick off after Avengers: Endgame, but what MCU movies will it include?
Avengers: Endgame is going to bring to an end Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - along with the entire Infinity Saga that encompasses all three phases so far - and so the inevitable question is: what comes next?
With the MCU as we know it concluding after 11 years and 22 movies, there's a degree of uncertainty as to the future of the universe. A lot of movies have been mentiond, but the only Phase 4 film with an official release date is this year's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Speaking to io9, Kevin Feige wasn't in the mood for giving anything away, but he did confirm that they have a "five-year plan" for Phase 4, adding:
"The slate that we’re building over the next five years [is] not apples to apples. It is two very distinct things and I hope they’ll feel very distinct. But there is a similar mentality going into it, which is ‘How can we continue to tell stories with some of the characters that audiences already know and love in a unique way, in a different way, in surprising way, of which we have a lot of plans and ideas and work already going into it?’ [Then] ‘How can we introduce new characters that even hardcore fans, comic fans, have barely known or barely heard of.’ That’s really exciting too.”
We more or less know what some of those films are, even if they don't have release dates. Phase 4 will see sequels for Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Guardians of the Galaxy, while introducing the Eternals, Shang-Chi and probably many others (names like Ms Marvel and Nova have oft been mentioned too).
Those Phase 4 plans probably won't include the Fox characters, but there should be a number of new heroes introduced as Marvel shifts away from franchise mainstays Iron Man and Captain America. After Endgame, we can probably expect Feige to be a lot more forthcoming about the full line-up of Phase 4.
