28. Black Widow
Status: Dead (But Coming Back)
In the film's biggest surprise, Natasha Romanoff became the big casualty of the time heist as she and Hawkeye realised that they had to pay the Soul Stone's price and sacrifice one of them as Thanos had to with Gamora.
it was an emotionally charged scene (though it could have done with a bit more weight within it and after) but it actually fit that Widow would choose to sacrifice herself in order to atone for the "red in her ledger."
Next Up: Her Own Prequel Movie
She might be dead but she's got her own movie coming, which all but confirms that it will indeed be a prequel.
27. Hawkeye/Ronin
Status: Retired (For Now)
Having seen his worst nightmare come true - that he'd be unable to protect his own family - Hawkeye turned his back on subscripted superheroism and turned into Ronin, the murderous one-man vengeance machnine. There's no way that his getting his own family back - or Nat's sacrifice - will lead to anything but him retiring to peace on his farm.

Well, not COMPLETE retirement though, because Disney have announced that Jeremy Renner will return for a limited Hawkeye series on Disney+ in which he will train his new protegee Kate Bishop to become a Hawkeye.
