MCU Phase 4: Which Characters Will Return After Avengers: Endgame?
18. Vision
Status: Still Dead
Vision's only involvement in Endgame was the one sentence set aside for him when Wanda and Hawkeye discussed those they had lost and their importance in saving the world. Both he and Black Widow gave their lives for the cause, after all.
Other than that, he was no more than a footnote hanging over the film and it's very clear that he's not being revived. At least not conventionally.
Next Up: WandaVision
Curiously, his continued death doesn't seem to matter to the fact that he's got Disney+ duties with Scarlet Witch to attend to soon. Presumably, he's going to be a projection or Wanda is going to go back in time to rescue him and take him somewhere else?
17. War Machine
Status: Alive
Though he was probably expendable, Rhodey made it through Endgame to see Tony Stark give his life up to save the universe, adding another emotional beat to that farewell scene.
The thing is though, it feels like the Avengers Initiative is over and Rhodey wasn't even a fully fledged member anyway in the wake of Civil War and his injury. Could he have been quietly retired?

Honestly, if he turns up in future Avengers movies, that's absolutely fine, but his story is probably now done now that the Iron Man story is too. It's perhaps cruel to say it, but he was never really developed beyond his relationship with Tony.
