MCU: Predicting Marvel's Next 20 "Completely Different" Movies
A whole new chapter is coming...
Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige has made the hugely bold claim that the studio has no fewer than 20 films heading into development after Avengers 4 comes out. That's a stunning number of films for a studio that has already made 22 in their shared universe, and it should present some logistic tests for even Feige.
The supremo - and Disney boss Bob Iger - spoke to Vanity Fair to confirm that they're looking to take advantage of some of the 7000 characters they have the rights to, and their agenda is to really shake things up. Says Iger:
“We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate — geographically or in time — from the worlds that we’ve already visited.”
Meanwhile, Feige says that Marvel is “22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before – intentionally." He also promises that Avengers 4 will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale. There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
So, basically, we can expect weirdness, difference and possibly films that exist outside of the already established timeline. That's a BIG deal.
Now, the reality is, there's no way they'll drop all of the money-spinning sequels they need to stretch the appeal of some of their brands (as if Black Panther isn't getting a direct sequel!), but this does sound like they're looking more broadly, and that's not a bad thing. But even with those sure-fire sequel announcements, there's a lot of room for Marvel to really bring some unexpected movies...
