If we are going off the 'The Dark Knight' pre-production timeline then we are already two months behind the major announcements from late July 2006, when Warner Bros. had officially announced the movie, the title, the shooting date and that Heath Ledger would play The Joker. We also found out some weeks later that Harvey Dent would similarly appear in the movie. Right now, we are verging onto October and we are still awaiting all official announcements on 'Batman 3'. For now, we have to rely on Sir Michael Caine. Speaking to Chris Moyles on BBC Radio 1 less than an hour ago, the veteran Brit actor said 'Batman 3, probably starts in May' and that he 'assumes I'm in it but you never know in this business'. Interestingly, he also said that 'no one apart from Chris and his brother know who the baddie is yet'. Which was decidedly tongue-in-cheek and is no doubt his standard answer to the 'Batman 3' villain riddle but we are pretty sure Chris' wife and Batman producer Emma Thomas will know, as will co-screenwriter David Goyer and the high ranking Warner Bros. execs. So what's the delay in WB telling us anything then? Well I would guess that it's simply because Chris and Jonah are still putting the final touches to their screenplay. Remember, this is the film that will finish their trilogy, and coming up with a fitting ending, I'm certain, is something that they are taking very, very seriously. I would expect us to be weeks, possibly days away from hearing the first set of official announcements, so sit tight. Though I will tell you this - it's only going to be Catwoman or The Riddler. 'Batman 3' is due out on July 20th, 2012.
