Potentially some big news today and one that I'm keeping my fingers crossed is 100% accurate. Variety are reporting that Michael Mann's next project will be a big budget Hollywood noir movie and the star he is chasing after for the flick is none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. If you cast your mind back a few years, Mann and DiCaprio were set to work together in The Aviator, but Mann pulled out at the last minute as he didn't want to shoot another biopic movie so soon after Ali and The Insider, so he let Martin Scorsese have the reigns. The movie which is currently untitled, will be set in the old 1930's MGM lot and will follow a private investigator who has been hired to solve the murder of a movie actresses' husband. The Aviator scribe John Logan penned the script, the strength of which is said to be with the great period feel it creates and secondary roles for the stars of the time like Judy Garland and Bugsy Siegel. Love, love, love the sound of this movie. I love movies set in the early half of this century. There's something about the iconography, the feel, the dress sense and most of all the characters that always draw me in. Logan is the perfect writer for this, I adored what he did with the feel of The Aviator and all the classic figures he managed to fit into that movie. Michael Mann is one of my favourite directors and DiCaprio has been one of the most exciting and talented actor in Hollywood for years. This is going to be great!
