When originally pitching The Lord Of The Rings, Jackson had resigned himself to making at most two movies - there was no way a studio would put up the cash to make three lengthly movies back-to-back. Thankfully New Line Cinema thought differently to the rest of Hollywood, convincing the director to work the story into three movies.
