14. "Hunt Is The Living Manifestation Of Destiny" (Rogue Nation)
And now for a moment that doesn't feature Ethan's heart being stopped or Tom Cruise putting himself through the wringer for our entertainment: it's simply a piece of ridiculous dialogue.
In Rogue Nation's third act, CIA Director Hunley (Alec Baldwin) is forced to explain to the British Prime Minister (Tom Hollander) that Hunt is a force-of-nature who won't be stopped, and he does so beautifully.
Hunley tells the PM, "Hunt is uniquely trained and highly motivated. A specialist without equal, immune to any counter-measures. There is no secret he cannot extract, no security he cannot breach. No person he cannot become. He has, most likely, anticipated this very conversation and is waiting to strike in whatever direction we move. Sir, Hunt is the living manifestation of destiny. And he has made you his mission."
It's an absolutely ludicrous speech which nevertheless brilliantly cements Hunt's commitment to his mission, and is beautifully delivered by Alec Baldwin at his scenery-chewing best.
