Miyazaki next helming Ponyo

, we told you that Japanese legend Hayao Miyazaki was working on a new animated feature, which was of course big news because his last two movies Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away did insane numbers. The latter being the second highest grossing movie of all time in Japan. We now have a title for his next movie. It's going to be called Gake no ue no Ponyo (Ponyo on a Cliff) and should be released during the summer of next year. Studio Ghibili president Toshio Suzuki said this at Monday's press conference where the film was officially announced... "go back to his origins and use not any CG....Instead he will use simple, childlike drawings. He intends to make something different from his previous films." Miyazaki is writing the script which is in part based on his grandson and is set around the seaside. That's pretty much all we know about the movie at this point, apart from the fact that the rumours are saying it's going to be Miyazaki's last film, but then again they said that about Howl's Moving Castle. I've only in the last couple of months become acquainted with Miyazaki's works and I know they are much loved by most people but I just can't get my head around them. I think some of it might be down to the awful dubbing on some European versions, which don't match up with the characters at all. Maybe with subtitles, I might get more enjoyment from his films. source - coming soon, variety
