5. The Boring First Act

It sure takes a while for Moonfall to get into gear, for despite offering up a tantalising tease of an opening sequence, the first 30-40 minutes are mostly pretty dull.

We're introduced to all the focal characters and their various melodramas, and for the most part this section of the movie feels utterly procedural in getting the narrative cogs turning.

It's only at the start of reel two that the threat is satisfyingly established and it feels like things are starting to go somewhere.

Prior to that, it feels sluggish and stuck in the mud, unaided by the fact that so many of the early scenes take place in boring, low-budget locations like offices, conference rooms, and diners. Nobody wants to see any of that in a Roland Emmerich film.
