The last big release of a live-action MK flick was the original Paul W.S Anderson movie from 1995 and the subsequent sequel in 1997. Both of these films had some charm about them, but it's safe to say that they really did not do justice to the source material - as is often the case with video-game adaptations. One of the major sticking points for the movies was their rather abhorrent CGI and general visual effects.

Well, one thing is for sure, and it's that this movie certainly doesn't look as cheap and goofy as the franchises last cinematic attempt. The budget here is clearly far greater, and this is evidenced by the "flawless" VFX that are on display.

Jax's arms, Zero's Ice and Liu Kang's dragon are just some of the best examples, but going through this trailer bit by bit will reveal many more. Sure, adverts always take the best moments from the movies and use them to paint a general picture, but you can always tell if the VFX will be good, as could be seen in the poor quality of the DCEU's Wonder Woman trailer.

It looks like McQouid will be going for a nice mix of CG and practical effects, and this trailer shows off just how great they are.
