17. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Undeniably one of the most anticipated sequels of next year, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse picks up from the agonising cliffhanger of 2023's Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) realising he's trapped on Earth-42, where his dad Jeff (Bryan Tyree Henry) is dead, his uncle Aaron (Mahershala Ali) is alive, and this universe's version of Miles is The Prowler.

Beyond the Spider-Verse will continue immediately where the previous film left off, and though this sequel was initially expected to release in March 2024, less than a year after its predecessor, it'll ultimately end up dropping in June 2027, more than three years later.

This is less due to a troubled development than the mind-boggling complexity of the animation workload combined with recent industry strike action putting a halt on production.

And considering the peerlessly high quality of the first two films, there's little reason to doubt the team putting out another banger, in turn cementing this as one of cinema's all-time great trilogies.
