20 Most Underrated Horror Movies EVER
4. Urban Legend
In another universe, it feels like Urban Legend would be talked about more favourably, yet it ultimately ended up getting overshadowed by the likes of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer in the annals of late '90s slasher flicks.
For one, Urban Legend has an absolutely delicious premise, as a series of murders set across a college campus are modelled after various urban legends.
The film has a whole ton of fun mining this concept for every creatively gnarly drop, and it doesn't hurt that it boasts a stupid-good cast of young up-and-comers, including Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Joshua Jackson, Tara Reid, and Michael Rosenbaum, alongside genre vets such as Robert Englund, Brad Dourif, and Danielle Harris.
Far from the ersatz Scream it was too-readily dismissed as in 1998, Urban Legend has plenty of its own style and wit to spare, and though one might readily groan at the recently announced reboot, it actually feels like a new Urban Legend movie just might thrive in the age of social media.
