20 Most Underrated Actors Working Today

16. Will Patton

How does one even begin to describe the depth of work Will Patton has tackled over the years?

Perhaps we could start with the insane Michael Bay picture Armageddon, a ridiculous end-of-the-world disasterpiece in which he plays the only character with anything resembling real humanity. Or what about his touching recent work in the new Halloween trilogy, or his unforgettable narration in the masterful Trains Dreams? What about Minari?

It doesn't matter where you look, or how you start. Patton has been bringing a level of pathos to films both awful and grand for three decades now, and seems to have only become more affable, tender, and understanding in his work with age.

Best at portraying loving souls who often sail into the lives of bigger characters to offer warmth or wisdom, Will Patton has always looked like a caring uncle, the kind of man you'd trust, and he's used that to his advantage beautifully throughout his career. I mean, seriously, he's so great in Armageddon it's kind of absurd.
