The Dark Knight Quietly Shuffles To The Door...?

The rumbling train of bad news is beginning to shake the tracks in the distance. At least it is if you're choosing to listen to the rumours regarding Ben Affleck's continued tenure as the man currently beneath Batman's cowl.

Previously, Forbes' Mark Hughes had unearthed some whispers that Affleck might be somewhat discontent with life as the Dark Knight having already moved away from writing and directing the forthcoming stand-alone solo movie. That honour passed to Matt Reeves and some confidence was restored in the project, but now another industry voice has spoken up to say that Affleck might be still seeking a way out.

Though he admits that the past "scoops" he's been fed have proven hilariously off-base, Collider's John Campea has cited a couple of sources close to the project who all said he might be looking for a way out of the role sooner rather than later. This is clearly bad news for anyone wanting to see more from Affleck's caped avenger - particularly away from other heroic characters cramping his style - and for those who rightly acknowledge that he was the best thing about Batman v Superman by some distance.

Campea insists we should all take the rumour with a grain of salt (goes without saying, of course), but hat he's heard (and had confirmed by three sources) fits with what Hughes at Forbes has already said, and it's beginning to feel like there's major cause for concern.

Here's the video in question...

You could absolutely forgive Affleck for walking away, given what he's been through in the past few years personally and professionally, and the commitment to another solo project will probably mean another few years of strangled creative freedom. But it will be a blow, to say the least.

If the worst happens, Warner Bros and Reeves need to act quickly and hire someone to fill Affleck's considerable boots. And luckily, we've got some big suggestions for who could play Batman in his wake.
