Neill Blomkamp Teases More Alien Movies With Sigourney Weaver

Could we see more than one return for Ripley?

It's hard to know how to read this comment, but Neill Blomkamp has said something about his Alien 5 idea that complicates Sigourney Weaver's suggestion that they'd be making this picture to give Ripley her "proper finish." While discussing his notion with Empire, and avoiding any kind of specifics about plot or how the new film fits into the overall series, Blomkamp has said he "started to realize there was a whole film €“ at least a film, if not more €“ that still contained Ripley, which I was really surprised by.€ Me too. So does this mean he's contemplating an open-ended finale for his movie? It's a stretch to read this as his intention to make more than one movie. I think it's really speaking to the scale of the "gap" he's found. However and wherever Blomkamp plans to smuggle more Ripley into her own, previously seemingly definite, timeline, he thinks there's room for all sorts of incident. I'm not sure that dangling threads are the best idea. One of the most appealing parts of this whole project was the notion of closure. As much as I think the Alien alien is an extraordinary creation, I would like to see some kind of resolution to its story. We had this once, with Alien 3, then the bottle was opened again by Resurrection. Had that film not gone into its end credits on what amounts to a huge tease I wouldn't be feeling this way now. But I am. Save me, Sigourney Weaver. Don't let Neill Blomkamp leave us all hanging again.
