20 Upcoming 2026 Movies You Don't Know About (But Should)

2. Bucking Fastard

A strong contender for the best-titled film of the year, Bucking Fastard is the new movie from the inimitable Werner Herzog, and it seems primed to be one of the singular filmmaker's strangest films to date - which is really saying something.

Kate and Rooney Mara star as Jean and Joan Holbrooke - a pair of twins who are said to be identical in how they speak, dream, love, and live, and while seeking out an imaginary land where true love is possible, they start digging a tunnel through a mountain range. As you do.

From premise alone this has Fitzcarraldo vibes out the wazoo, and it'll certainly be interesting to see how Herzog, ever one of our most daring filmmakers, executes the madcap idea of digging through a mountain.

We've not seen nearly enough top-level work from the Mara sisters as of late, but getting them together on-screen for the first time? That's an irresistible one-two punch right there.
