When Batman fails to save the life of a young orphan girl, hes inconsolable with guilt and becomes convinced he hasnt got what it takes to be Gothams protector. Cracking to the pressure, Batman seeks out a way to enhance his strength and quickly finds himself addicted to Venom; the steroid-like drug used by Bane in the comic book canon. How It Could Work: For me, Venom is one of the greatest Batman story-arcs on the market. It looks at what makes the Dark Knight the greatest superhero out there: his human limitations and the depth of his obsession with the mission. Thisd be another one that must depart completely from the current trilogy continuity to work, but it wouldnt necessarily have to dispense entirely with the popular grittiness that Nolan put forth in his take. Potential Issues: Well, a glaring issue is that the steroid that Batman becomes addicted to in Venom doesnt exist in the current Batman movie continuity. In fact, audiences everywhere have just been told that Banes mask administers anaesthetic, when it should have in fact administered the steroid, according to comic book lore. That said, it cant be massively difficult to fabricate the existence of some new super-steroid in Gotham; it doesnt even strictly have to be connected with Bane. And after TDKR, I think audiences are ready to see how dangerous Batman can really be when he loses control.
