New DNA for JUDGE DREDD!

Similar to last week's story of the mid 90's comic book adaptation flop THE PHANTOM getting the reboot treatment, is a story that broke over the weekend involving JUDGE DREDD. According to the CEO of DNA Films (British company behind SUNSHINE and 28 WEEKS LATER), a new movie in the DREDD universe will be put into production by them early next year and importantly, it will have no connection to the previous Sylvester Stallone disaster...

We cant give away too many details at this point, but were looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.

The story broke at the 2000AD Message Boards but I sourced it at AICN.

The original DREDD grossed only $34 million domestic from a budget of $90 million. One of the fundamental flaws of the original (believe me, there was a lot more wrong with the movie, I just mean one of the things that always irked me about it) was the fact that Stallone was seen for much of the movie without his helmet on. It's kind of like having a SPIDER-MAN movie with Tobey Maguire full in costume expect the face mask for the majority of the film. It doesn't work. But then, can you acquire a top actor for the role? Would a Christian Bale really be happy with keeping his face covered up for the majority of a movie or would a studio be happy to hire someone like Bale and not show him off to the world?
