18. Silent Night, Deadly Night

Now in fairness, the audience was always going to be limited for a remake of 1984's Silent Night, Deadly Night, but on paper a Christmas-themed slasher flick nevertheless seemed like rock-solid seasonal counter-programming.

Against the odds, this is a rare horror remake that was actually more warmly received than the original - albeit in large part because the O.G. Silent Night, Deadly Night doesn't have a particularly strong reputation to begin with.

All the same, writer-director Mike P. Nelson leans harder into the camp while serving up a bevy of memorable kills, while Rohan Campbell and Ruby Modine make for a fun central pairing.

But this all failed to translate to box office gravy, as the remake topped out at just $2.8 million worldwide.

The film's budget has never been officially disclosed, and though it clearly didn't cost a whole lot, it also wasn't produced cheaply enough that under $3 million globally would be a stellar result.

One can only hope that Silent Night, Deadly Night claws back more profit over time by becoming an annual yuletide staple for horror fans.
