20 Recent Horror Movies That NEED Sequels
These horror movies desperately need the sequel treatment.
There's simply no genre more open to sequels than horror, because even if a second or third film might seem unnecessary, genre fans are an enthusiastic bunch who love to witness the birth of a new horror franchise.
And while it's common for hit horror movies to have sequels announced within mere weeks of their release, sometimes things are a little less certain than that, and fans might be left in limbo for a while waiting to find out if another go-around is actually on the cards.
That's certainly the case with these 20 recent horror films, each of which surely have enough runway for a follow-up, regardless of how they performed at the box office.
A lot of people would love to see sequels to these buzzy recent horror films, yet none have yet been confirmed.
We can only hope that the studios might start piping up in short order, otherwise fans are going to get understandably antsy that they might never happen.
After all, where horror sequels are concerned it definitely pays to strike while the iron is red-hot...
20. Resident Evil
Zach Cregger's Resident Evil adaptation released to rave reviews from critics and has grossed more than $320 million worldwide to date, making it the highest-grossing Resident Evil film.
And though it's been out for a few weeks now, Sony hasn't yet officially greenlit a follow-up - as is often the case when a franchise title performs this well.
After all, the film's ending certainly leaves things open for a sequel set within the same firmly established world.
However, the lack of a sequel announcement may be due to filmmaker Cregger, who has by his own admission had a tough time fending off pre-release flak from the video game series' fanbase and clearly has ambitions to make other non-Resident Evil movies.
And so, while another Resident Evil movie will almost certainly be made within a few years, it's highly likely that Cregger will only be involved as a producer and, if we're lucky, a story consultant.
Disappointing though that might be, there's definitely room here for Resident Evil to take the lead of the most recent Evil Dead movies, amassing an anthology of nasty, darkly funny standalone horror flicks helmed by different, up-and-coming filmmakers.
