20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck

5. In the Hand of Dante

Though In the Hand of Dante is the new film from acclaimed filmmaker Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and expectations should've been high, that all came crashing down a month before its premiere at last year's Venice Film Festival.

Schnabel's film had the misfortune of leaking online in August 2025, with the source of the leak reportedly being an HD press screener.

The response from those who sailed the high seas and watched the film was not-great, to be kind, and effectively poisoned its PR well long before it even premiered officially.

The press reaction from Venice wasn't much better, all of this conspiring to obliterate the movie's chances at getting serious theatrical distribution.

And this is all without even getting into the fact that Schnabel fought with producers over both his 153-minute runtime and the inclusion of black-and-white sequences.

Ultimately, six months after its premiere, it was finally acquired by Netflix, which really says it all.
