The seemingly-cursed X-Men spinoff yet again gets moved...

Well this gives you some deja vu, doesn't it? Marvel's X-Men spin-off New Mutants probably has one of the most unfortunate and absurd release histories of any major motion picture in recent memory. First announced for an August 2018 release date, the film film was first pushed back to February 22, 2019 to avoid competing with 20th Century Fox's very own Deadpool and for potential reshoots.

Then the release date was pushed back again, this time to February 2019, with the studio demanding half the film be reshot. Then Fox was aquired by Disney and the film was delayed again as the new studio tried reassess its place in their larger brand. And then it turned out reshoots might not've ever happened because the cast had aged too much. And then it turned out the film hadn't even finished editing yet. And then the director had to be brought in to finish the VFX. And so on, and so on, and so on.

Though it's the personal (only half-sarcastic) opinion of this writer that the film will keep getting delayed until the final hot death of the universe, as of this writing Disney has announced an August 28, 2020 release date. No word as yet on how the film will be distributed considering the uncertainty of the ongoing global health situation, and whether or not movie theatres will be open/accessible by then.
