"Kylo failed you."

Lucasfilm are currently kicking the marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi into hyperdrive, emphasis on the hype, with a slew of TV spots released recently.

They each contain a few new tidbits, but it's the latest that's the best and most interesting. This one puts the focus firmly on Luke and Rey's burgeoning relationship, with a few new angles around the island of Ahch-To and different shots of her training. It also features a more intimate scene, where we hear her say "Kylo failed you... I won't."

There is a cut in there, so the phrasing might be edited differently in the film itself, but it's still a clear appeal from Rey for Luke to fully train her, given we've already seen how reluctant he is to do so. What's more, though, is that it confirms Rey was speaking to Luke in the official trailer when she says "I need someone to show me my place in all this."

While that might have been clear to some viewers (as we noted in our breakdown), the way it was paired with the subsequent shot of Kylo was very much intended as a misdirect - and one fans have been speculating about ever since. Kylo and Rey may still team-up, but the shot of Rey in this TV spot does at least confirm she was reaching out to Luke in the trailer.

Aside from that, the trailer gives us a couple more teasing glimpses of footage and a lot of what we've seen before, but it all helps ease the wait before the film's release next month.
