New Texas Chainsaw Massacre Film Confirmed For 2021
In 2021, the face of madness returns.
A new entry in the long-running Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror franchise has been confirmed by Legendary Pictures, with the unveiling of a teaser poster and an official website.
The poster depicts the mask of the series' iconic antagonist Leatherface, with a caption reading "In 1974, the world witnessed one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history. In 2021, the face of madness returns." Entering the site will take the user to an email-entry box for updates on the film, along with a link to a motion poster and a Calling Card for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone.
The as-yet unnamed film will be directed by David Blue Garcia (Tejano), written by Chris Thomas Devlin; and produced by Evil Dead and Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez with Kim Henkel (co-writer of the original film), Ian Henkel, Rodolfo Sayagues, and Pat Cassidy.
The cast stars Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade, Castle Rock), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig, Vikings), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Alice Krige (Silent Hill, Star Trek: First Contact), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner, Sleight, The Chi), Nell Hudson (Victoria, Outlander), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch, the video game Heavy Rain), William Hope (Aliens, Dark Shadows, Thomas & Friends), and Jolyon Coy (War & Peace, Midsomer Murders, Peaky Blinders).
According to IMDB, principal photography is currently ongoing.
The new film will be the ninth entry in the series, which began with Tobe Hooper's seminal 1974 original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, widely-regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made. Hooper also directed the first sequel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, which was released in 1986. Two more sequels followed in 1990 and 1995, neither with Hooper's involvement.
A remake of the first film, directed by Marcus Nispel, was released in 2003 with Hooper as a producer. Subsequently, a prequel to the remake, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, was released in 2006. In 2013, the series rebooted with Texas Chainsaw 3D, a direct follow-up to the 1974 film that disregarded all other sequels. A prequel to that film, depicting the origins of the character Leatherface, was released in 2017.
This latest film appears to be a reboot/sequel in much the same manner as 3D. Legendary Pictures' press release described the film as "a continuation of Tobe Hooper’s shocking 1974 seminal horror classic, marks the return of Leatherface, re-introducing one of the most iconic villains of the horror genre to a whole new generation."
