10. Laying The Seeds For A "Secret Invasion"

There have been rumblings about some sort of Secret Invasion TV series for a while, and for those of you unfamiliar with that comic book storyline, it revolved around the shape-shifting Skrulls secretly invading Earth. Over a number of years, they picked off various heroes and replaced them, so that when their invasion did come, The Avengers were massively weakened.

It would make sense for Captain Marvel 2 to serve as a Captain America: Civil War-style Avengers movie adapting Secret Invasion, and Nick Fury is likely to be pivotal in setting the stage for that.

The last time fans saw the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, he was chilling in outer space alongside the Skrulls, so when some of them start rebelling or become aware that other members of their species are hiding on Earth, it makes perfect sense for Fury to be caught right in the middle.

Secret Invasion is a huge story, so it needs a prequel of sorts to lay the groundwork, and that would make this show essential viewing as Marvel Studios sets up its next big event.
