One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie

35. Mickey Rourke's Tattoo - Iron Man 2

The devil is most certainly in the details when it comes to building a shared universe like the MCU. There have been examples of incredible attention paid over the years, as well as some details that have fallen through the cracks and caused continuity issues and inconsistencies down the line.

This example wouldn't have exactly been a contradiction, and it wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world had it not been caught, but it may have been confusing to audiences within the context of the timeline. We talk, of course, of one of Mickey Rourke's tattoos.

The man who played Ivan Vanko in the third MCU outing has notoriously bashed his experience, with much of his character's development and arc being left on the cutting room floor. However, Whiplash did undergo extensive CGI modifications in post-production, yet again according to The Reign of Marvel Studios, removing one tattoo in particular in (almost) every frame in which he appeared.

The ink in question was the name of one of Mickey Rourke's dogs. Had Iron Man 2 not been followed directly by Thor, Vanko having the word 'Loki' tattooed on him may not have been an issue, but Kevin Feige didn't want audiences thinking this was some sort of Easter egg or connection to Tom Hiddleston's character, and so the tattoo had to be painstakingly removed.
