Oscar Noms: Arie's Predictions
With the Oscar nominated Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) scheduled to announce the 2010 Oscar Nominations in just four days time on the 2nd February, I thought it timely to get a discussion going on what the OWF readers predict will be the 10 films nominated for Best Picture this year. Thats right, the 82nd Academy Awards will be the first ceremony to pit TEN pictures from 2009 against each other for dominion of this years cinema, DVD and ultimate TV sales! No, sorry, of course its because there are more great films this year than ever before . . . ahem, yeah. Matt told us the real reason last year. Note that these are predictions and not necessarily your favourite films of the year but those most likely to make the golden list. Cogito, ergo sum, vis a vis; in past years the general public have been robbed of the wide considered Best Picture in lieu of whatever crazy political system is in place in Hollywood to honour their peers. For example, who lost bucket-loads of cash on the sure-fire bet of Saving Private Ryan when it went up against Shakespeare in Love? I didnt, because I was underage, but had I had the chance I would have lost my house, or more realistically my macbook. Nowadays I have learnt my lesson. In all likelihood the over-hyped and indulgent Up in the Air will steal it from the far more deserved Precious and The Hurt Locker, but enough ranting, Avatar will take it. Here are my predictions (not my personal choices, remember) in no particular order:
A SERIOUS MAN
BRIGHT STAR
INVICTUS
CRAZY HEART
AN EDUCATION
PRECIOUS
THE HURT LOCKER
NINE
UP IN THE AIR
AVATAR
