Oscars 2014: Predicting Next Year's Winners

By J.D. Westfall /

Every single year we get to see the Academy of Arts and Motion Picture Sciences give out their award, which has become the highest honor in the film world, the Academy Awards. Oftentimes these awards cause controversy, either because people think the wrong movies and people got nominated or won, or the right people weren't nominated or won. But yet, we continue to watch and enjoy, even if it's to just yell at the screen and complain the next day at work about the winners. Either way is pretty fun. But setting all that controversy aside, we will now take a few moments to predict what movies and people seem likely to get the nominations at the next ceremony. Some categories will be left out, because how can one accurately predict who'll win Best Production Design? NOTE: Be sure to check back March 3rd, 2014 to see how dead wrong we were!

8. Jimmy Fallon Will Be The Host

Jimmy Fallon, recently announced to be departing Late Night and taking over for Jay Leno on the tonight show, come the 2014 Winter Olympics. Fallon has proven himself to be a good host and certainly an audience draw, so perhaps he could bring better ratings to the event than Seth MacFarlane managed last time (which was still a pretty good size audience). Plus, I just want to see someone host the Academy Awards dressed as Neil Young. Other likely candidates: The Tina Fey/Amy Poehler duo garnered some major acclaim at the most recent Golden Globes. Another excellent choice would be Neil Patrick Harris, who is extremely adaptable to nearly any environment (and has also had experience hosting the Tony Awards).
