Even though it was snubbed for Best Picture, Best Production Design seemed like a category where Carol would shine massively, given how intricately-curated every aspect of its style was. Instead, Bridge of Spies, The Danish Girl, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian and The Revenant snuck in there, with The Revenant being the most surprising considering how much of the production was shot out in the natural wilderness, not requiring all that much design as it were. Given the regal look and feel of the film, it's pretty shocking it didn't make the cute.
