Oscars 2017: La La Land Leads The Way With 14 Nominations
Very real chance Damien Chazelle's gem could win 12!
So there you have it, after the usual few weeks of speculation and wild anger in anticipation of the snubs and politics of the Academy's latest round of nominations, the ballots are in and we have a picture of which films Hollywood's premier markers in taste loved in the past year.
Predictably, Damien Chazelle's beautiful, glorious La La Land picked up the most nominations, equally the record for the most nominations ever with 14, and becoming the most nominated musical ever (pipping Mary Poppins, which had 13). If it doesn't win 10, it will be a travesty, but there's a very real chance that it will win 12 or 13, sweeping the board in the technicals and the "main event awards". The one it probably won't win is Best Actor for Ryan Gosling, but he can count himself lucky even being nominated, really.
The bookmakers were mostly spot on with their predictions, as Moonlight, Manchester By The Sea and Lion all picked up multiple nominations. There were a couple of snubs however, with Amy Adams not up for Arrival, Hugh Grant missing out for Florence Foster Jenkins and the entire La La Land soundtrack not taking all the nominations for Best Song...
Meanwhile, Meryl Streep did what she does, pickng up her 20th nomination for her lead performance in Florence Foster Jenkins. For once, she looks like an outsider.
