6. Best Editing - Dunkirk
What Should've Won: Baby Driver
Dunkirk took home three awards in total, and while it's hard to argue with its two Sound prizes - because the movie is LOUD and EPIC - it's Editing, while great, was bettered by that of Baby Driver.
A win for Edgar Wright's movie seemed unlikely, since it didn't have a Best Picture nomination to go with it (which this category generally demands), but he and his team - Paul Machliss and Jonathan Amos - should've been taking the statue for the way they so perfectly and joyously synced every beat to the expertly curated soundtrack.
The editing in Baby Driver is both seamless and a feat of real ingenuity, allowing the action and the music to blend together in true harmony while the movie zooms along faster than Baby in a getaway, while still ensuring to hit the romantic and heartfelt beats when necessary.
