5. Snub: Jane (Best Documentary)

Much like the Best Foreign Language Film category, Best Documentary Feature can often shock and snub in equal measure, both in terms of nominations and the eventual winner itself.

Though the Academy did well to recognise Netflix documentary hits Icarus and Strong Island, curiously omitted was one of 2017's best-reviewed documentaries, Jane, a look at the life and times of beloved conservationist Jane Goodall.

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail stealing Jane's spot was especially surprising considering that it was a more broadly-acclaimed doc, while Jane received near-universal raves and was basically deemed a lock for a nomination. Madness.
