A lot of great 2018 movies aren't being recognised at this year's Academy Awards.

The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards have been revealed, bringing an interesting mix of things going to script alongside a few major shocks, snubs, and surprises.

Roma and The favourite lead the pack with 10 nominations, which is especially pleasing in the case of the former, and it's hard to argue too much about it being a 'typical Oscar year' when the frontrunner is a foreign-language, black-and-white film that was made by Netflix. It's also the first year a comic book movie has made the Best Picture breakthrough, with Black Panther grabbing a nomination in the big one on its way to seven nods in total.

Still, within that, there were a few egregious oversights. First Man racked up a few technical nominations, but was somehow overlooked for Best Picture, Editing, Cinematography, and, worst of all, Original Score. If Beale Street Could Talk made its way into Adapted Screenplay and Best Actress, but couldn't get in the Best Picture mix either, Mary Poppins Returns missed out on Actress, and A Quiet Place had to settle for just one sound nomination.

But at least those films had some recognition, even if it was just a single award. There were many more great films from 2018 that didn't get a look in at all, despite being more than deserving.
