Who Should Win

First Man

First Man has been wrongly overlooked for nominations in a number of much bigger categories, so the least they can do is honour it in the sound ones. The film's sound design is unbelievable, playing a huge part in making space both truly terrifying and awe-inspiring, from the nerve-shattering flights to stepping on the moon for the first time.

Who Will Win

First Man

It would seem to be between First Man and A Quiet Place - which uses its soundscape in a unique way - for this prize, but Damien Chazelle's space flick seems to have the edge. In part that's because it's deserving as a technical marvel, but also since it's harder to reward higher-up, whereas A Quiet Place's nomination is an outlier.
