Film Editing is one of the strongest indicators for a film's Best Picture prospects, though it has historically also invited some broader offerings.

To that end, The Irishman and especially Ford v Ferrari have scored a number of vital wins on the awards circuit so far, and it's tough to imagine Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's meticulous composition not getting in.

Two slots remain, then, and there are a number of interesting potentials in the mix, namely Lee Smith's "invisible" editing on 1917, Nick Houy's non-linear approach to Little Women, and Jennifer Lame's judicious editing work on Marriage Story.

But the propulsive editing in Joker is responsible for many of its most memorable beats landing as they do, and Parasite is such a precisely edited film that, given its enormous popularity so far, it also feels like it'll make the cut.

It's a tough category to call, though, and those latter two slots are really anyone's to steal.
