Who Should Win: Pinocchio

Dalia Colli, Mark Coulier and Francesco Pegoretti's stunning practical craft bringing the title character to life in Matteo Garrone's dark take on Pinocchio is nothing short of phenomenal, not to ignore the incredible makeup and hair work on the myriad supporting players.

To the naked eye it's easy to assume most of the heavy lifting was done by CGI, which only makes the makeup that much more jaw-droppingly impressive.

Who Will Win: Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom has been winning makeup awards left and right all season, so there's very little chance of anything pulling an upset - as glorious as a Pinocchio victory would be.

That's not to take anything away from Sergio Lopez-Rivera, Mia Neal, and Jamika Wilson's remarkable work, which ably helps the ensemble cast slink into their roles.
