The documentary field is always a bit of a tricky one to predict as the branch has a tendency to nominate lesser-known left-field docs at the expense of films that made an impact with the mainstream.

There are a lot of great documentaries in the mix this year, with Ascension, Flee, The Rescue, and Summer of Soul all feeling like near-locks for a nomination.

The fifth slot is probably either going to Attica or The First Wave, the latter having crucial Producers Guild of America support. And yet Attica is by far the more acclaimed of the two, so we'll take a swing on that.
