Every animated movie nominated this year is at least very good, but Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio's is simply on another level - a technically astonishing stop-motion animation which hits an emotional peak like none of its competition. Better yet, it's legitimately one of del Toro's best movies.

Though the main voting body is typically extremely lazy here and will often just vote for the Pixar movie, Pinocchio has maintained impressive momentum throughout awards season and scooped up basically all the major awards, including top honours at the Annies and PGAs.

While there's undeniably strong support for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - the only viable contender to beat Pinocchio, really - the odds still have it firmly going to del Toro's film.
