6. Christopher Nolan & Robert Downey Jr. FINALLY Win Oscars

Perhaps the two most satisfying wins of the entire night saw two incredibly respected artists pick up long-overdue awards - for the same movie, no less.

Christopher Nolan, who had eight nominations without a win up to this point, took home two Oscars for Oppenheimer - one for Best Director, one for Best Picture as a producer.

Given that the Academy has been accused of snubbing Nolan in the past - namely, failing to give him Best Director nominations for The Dark Knight and Inception - it was extremely gratifying to see him take the industry's biggest honour here.

And Robert Downey Jr. completed his post-MCU return to "real movies" with a Best Supporting Actor win for his phenomenal performance in Oppenheimer as Lewis Strauss, which was nothing if not an incredibly deserving victory.
