Despite stiff competition from the beautiful Chico & Rita, western adventure movie Rango managed to scoop a well-deserved Oscar win in 2011, and since its victory has slipped far too much into obscurity.

It stars Johnny Depp as a daydreaming chameleon who accidentally becomes the sheriff of a small town populated by other animals, and must combat a deadly threat that plots to destroy his newfound home. Hilarity ensues.

Boundlessly funny, Rango serves as a thrilling homage to the western genre, whilst being an engaging action flick in its own right. With heaps of personality and a pitch perfect cast, it's dark, violent and hysterically odd in all the right ways, and stands as one of the Academy's best and most underrated winners.
