3. Pretty Lethal
The premise of Pretty Lethal may admittedly sound like a bit of a mad-lib, but there's actually nothing wrong with that.
This brutal action-thriller follows a troupe of young ballet dancers who find themselves targeted by a group of armed men, forcing them to use their training to fight back.
Much as it might sound like it was adapted from a graphic novel, Pretty Lethal is a purely original project from writer Kate Freund, originally titled Ballerina Overdrive.
If you're able to get onboard with the film's undeniably heightened setup - where ballet moves allow the group to dispense with scores of armed mercenaries - there's a whole lot of fun to be had here.
The fight choreography is ludicrously entertaining and satisfyingly crunchy, while the heroic ensemble of Iris Apatow, Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, Avantika and Maddie Ziegler kills it. Throw in a hammy villainous turn from Uma Thurman and you've got a tasty B-movie stew cooking.
Amazon sent this one out with so little hype that you couldn't be blamed for missing it, but at just 88 minutes in length it's a tight, pacy breeze that shows full respect for your precious time.
