4. No, It Isn't A Cloverfield Movie
It's been a constant talking point ever since Overlord was first announced that it would most likely be the fourth entry into the Cloverfield franchise, what with J.J. Abrams producing the movie and all.
Even though Abrams "confirmed" earlier this year that it wasn't a CloverVerse film, that didn't stop fans understandably assuming that he was attempting to keep the lid on the movie's big secret.
As it turns out, however, he wasn't trolling audiences for once, and Overlord is simply a straight-up standalone war-horror movie with no apparent links to the Cloverfield world (though it's possible Abrams included some sneaky Easter eggs).
It's still unclear whether or not Overlord was ever actually meant to be a CloverVere movie, though given Abrams' otherwise bizarre involvement in a movie like this, it does seem rather likely. As for the motivation to strip the branding away, it could've been a result of The Cloverfield Paradox failing to come together how Abrams intended.
Either way, it was a decision most certainly for the best.
