Overlord Trailer Brings Rock And Roll Nazi Zombies (But No Sign Of Cloverfield)

Well, that's a shock!

JJ Abrams' next project (as a producer at least) might come with the unfortunate Cloverfield Paradox hangover to deal with, but as a stand-alone, the idea of a Nazi zombie movie with B-movie credentials but a blockbuster budget is very exciting.

And the first trailer for the movie has worked exceptionally hard to push the cool factor, marrying the outrageous subject matter with a rock and roll soundtrack and an edit that seems to consciously reference Quentin Tarantino. Whether the final product ends up delivering on that product remains to be seen, but it's certainly a good start.

Here's the trailer:

Say what you want about the shlock, but there's something inherently appealing about this sort of popcorn fare and seeing Nazi Zombies outside of terrible SyFy movies is certainly appealing.

But there's still a question hanging in the air. Why is it not a Cloverfield movie? Were the early rumours of it being part of the strange shared universe no more than lies? JJ Abrams has already denied that it is a Cloverfield movie, but ever since its announcement it was considered part of the series - to the extent that Abrams' denial felt like a change in approach.

Perhaps it's because of the failure of The Cloverfield Paradox and the cynicism with which fans viewed the manner with which it had the franchise label seemingly slapped on it to sell it better? Could it be that Abrams and Bad Robot changed their minds and took out the links to the other three movies?

Or could this just be another ruse in the already impressive catalogue of clever marketing stunts in the Cloverfield series? It's likely to hang over the movie until it's released in November.
